About the event

Maghe Sankranti is an important Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal and parts of South Asia, marking the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign Capricorn (Makara). It usually falls in mid-January and symbolizes the end of the coldest period of winter and the beginning of longer, warmer days.
In Nepal, Maghe Sankranti holds deep cultural, religious, and seasonal significance. On this day, people traditionally take holy baths in rivers such as the Trishuli, Bagmati, Gandaki, or Koshi, believing it purifies the body and soul and brings good health and prosperity.
Food plays a central role in the celebration. Families prepare and enjoy energy-rich traditional foods like:
Til (sesame seeds)
Chaku (molasses toffee)
